I bought my second M.2 SSD recently, but installation is tricky because the motherboard box didn’t have the proper screws for M.2 NVMe. I bought the board in 2022 and didn’t realize it was missing those parts. Did I end up with a different model? The motherboard itself seems to be fine and working properly. I got it from an Amazon trusted seller. It’s possible the screws were omitted or someone removed them from the box. Edited October 18, 2023 by Anjani

Which motherboard are you using? Does the second slot for M.2 have a heatsink attached? If yes, take it off and verify if it’s included. If no hardware is present, look for options to purchase them individually.

Second position lacks a heatsink. Did you think the motherboard arrived correctly?

Review your guide—it should list the required fasteners. If not critical, you’re free to buy any PC screws needed on Amazon at affordable prices.

Did you receive the motherboard, or did the company overlook placing it inside the box?

You might have misplaced the small pouch unnoticed. It's quite typical.

No, I don't think you've used the motherboard. You didn't lose it.

From a trusted seller there’s minimal risk they offered a brand-new motherboard. I’ve noticed boards that arrive just with the standoffs for a single M2 pod, either intentionally or not. Reviewing the manual can confirm if it should be included. It’s much more likely you misplaced it, since the packaging often clings to cardboard or other materials.

Use m.2 screws specifically for your motherboard. These aren't compatible with all boards.
