Missing icons for Windows 2000 desktop applications
Repairing a machine for a family member. The old unit from 1996 still functions, original hard drive intact. It hasn't connected to the internet in nearly ten years and has been used almost every day. My grandfather keeps it running for tax records and general info in Word 2003. The issue is that when starting up, the desktop icons disappear and can't be selected. In File Explorer I can return to the desktop folder and find everything intact, but the icons themselves aren't visible. I haven’t touched Windows 2000—probably because I was six—and I’m not sure if a hidden option exists.
