Missing gold contacts on the 10900K?
I checked the chip carefully. The gold bar appears as a solid grey on the right side. It looks like a deliberate cutoff rather than a gradual transition from gold to grey. Is this typical?
Can I capture a clearer image of that spot? It looks a bit out of focus.
It seems the surface is likely nickel that wasn't correctly coated with gold.
It might be viewed as a flaw, though I question if the revision code is connected to it. This appears to be a very particular spot where a non-plated section remains and is vulnerable to corrosion. I’m uncertain about its function, but it seems unrelated to the revision number. Likely a flaw during the plating process. Is this typical? Probably not, since few people replace their CPUs, making it hard to confirm. It doesn’t seem to influence my choice of CPU.
It's already reassembled, but if you wished to, you might apply nail polish or conformal coating on top to stop corrosion. However, I doubt it will make a difference either way.
