So First post sorry If its not in the right place. I'm trying to pick the communities brain here and see if anyone knew anything about these ports losing or the spring meant to clamp the port down onto the cable not being strong enough or worn out and how you would go about replacing a part like this, it seems relatively simple but finding a spring seems to be the hardest part here. the port itself works but without the spring to hold the cable in place the contacts are missed so no connection. Thanks in advance!

You might want to have it fixed at the store where you bought it. The issue could be a loose pin on the Ethernet cable or something else. It’s unlikely to be the port itself. Try using a different cable to see if it resolves the problem.

Unfortunately, I've experimented with various cables, but the main issue lies in the port's design. The Ethernet port functions, yet the hinge that secures the cable with contact points has weakened, making it difficult to hold the cable firmly. After connecting, I have to carefully maneuver the cord and keep it still. Regarding replacement, I received this laptop three years ago, so it likely falls outside service coverage. They probably would have fixed it for free, but not without significant effort. Besides that, I've already repaired the cracked screen myself, which was a gift when I got it.

I understand the situation, I initially assumed it was a desktop but realized laptop components can be replaced. You might want to look up Ethernet cards online. It seems laptops often have swappable parts, possibly cheaper than PCs. If it doesn’t work, you still have Wi-Fi available.

I still have Wi-Fi, not an AC card so I’m avoiding the 5GHz band, which is why I’m considering fixing this port. I really want faster speeds. From what I’ve searched, there’s not much discussion online about this issue—most people don’t talk about it. I did find a discussion here about using the port, but no details on replacement parts. When I get home, I’ll disassemble it and check for a part number to narrow the search. I hope that helps reduce the time spent looking.

I searched for information about replacing an Ethernet card in a laptop. There are many possible solutions, and it seems the part is likely replaceable. However, you should carefully review the specifications and details of the components to ensure compatibility.

You're using a 2014 Asus x501a, and you're having trouble with just two USB ports. Having more ports would definitely help resolve this issue.

A USB hub can convert a single USB port into several connections.
