Hi Core 2 Quad user, your processor might be the bottleneck, but if you have plenty of RAM, that could be the issue too—particularly with minimal CPU activity. Could you tell me how much RAM you currently have installed? Also, what type are they (DDR2 or DDR3)?
It might also be a DDR1 model, which would be problematic, though that seems improbable.
I believe I’d try that game. The one I play is CS GO: in deadmatch I see above 40-50 FPS with a bit of stutter, which is still over 35-40 FPS, and other games are similar. It’s odd since I get around 60 FPS on high settings in Euro Truck Simulator with minimal stutter in city areas.
CS:GO should perform adequately, and 40-50 FPS seems reasonable for the Q8300. An overclock will significantly improve performance. Ensure "Boost Player Contrast" is off in CS:GO. Activate "Multi-Core Rendering" and disable all other settings except Textures, which should be set to high. Euro Truck Simulator demands less strain than CS:GO. Before attempting an overclock, confirm you have a suitable cooler for your CPU; we can assess if it’s sufficient by reviewing a photo. With DDR3, you can upgrade to 16 depending on your motherboard. If you plan to move to a newer platform, X79 is a cost-effective option. Feel free to reach out here for overclock assistance.
I'll do my best to help you with overclocking. Let's get started right away.
