I recently damaged my stock iMac mid-2010 monitor, so I purchased a mini DP cable for HDMI to connect another display. After plugging it in, I tested it on my TV and it functioned immediately once Windows started. However, the TV began stopping video output right after I booted up. That’s been frustrating since I rely on Windows every day.

I might not grasp this fully, but the feeling I’m having is: 1) you have a device (likely a monitor) that was once linked to an old iMac, but now you want to connect it to a PC using a new cable. 2) another possibility is that the PC isn’t a standard PC but a broken-screened iMac, and you’re trying to use the new monitor as the main display. In either scenario, the issue is what you’re linking and why it’s not working. I assume it didn’t just function properly.

The display needed roughly ten minutes before it displayed the startup screen.

Occasionally a device takes a while to start due to factors like memory setup. If this happens repeatedly, it may indicate an underlying issue.
