Minecraft performance comparison: Ryzen 5 2400G, 2600, and 3600.
Hello. You're considering a hardware upgrade while staying within a limited budget. Currently you have a Ryzen 5 2400G, and you're weighing options like the 2600, 2600x, or 3600. The main concern is how these components affect Minecraft performance, especially since the game relies heavily on CPU speed. You're wondering if moving up will actually improve frame rates enough to justify spending more money. Comparing the boost and base clocks of each model helps clarify whether a jump in performance is worth it. For the 2400G you have single-threaded gains, a higher base clock might not compensate for the lower speed. With the 2600, boosting from 3.4 to 3.6 GHz could still offer noticeable improvements, while the 2600x and 3600 both run at 4.2 GHz, potentially giving better overall performance. Regarding compatibility, ensure parts fit together and match your system's requirements. The current lag you're experiencing is mainly in crowded areas like lobbies, so upgrading might help, but it depends on what you prioritize most. Let me know if you need more details!
Do you own a separate GPU? The improvements I referenced don’t include built-in graphics, assuming you’re not using your current setup.
I figured I should check the forums since there’s more to it than just clock speed. What do people think about the 2600? Would upgrading it really make a difference and justify the cost? Yeah, I get it. I got the 2400g for integrated graphics and later upgraded a few months ago. Now I have an RX 5700, which is more than ready to handle everything.
It makes sense to notice better performance with the 2600 as you increase core numbers and boost clock speed, especially without the Vega 8.
It’s unclear if spending $120 on the 2600 offers enough value compared to saving for the 3600.
I’d pick the 3600 mainly because of the IPC increase, though the 2600 remains a great option thanks to its value and performance in Minecraft.
