Hello, I recently set up a new rig and installed Minecraft on it. I added Sphax Pure BD Craft 512 as a texture pack. There were no mods installed. On the first day everything worked well, but Minecraft was using around 2.7 GB of RAM in Task Manager. After restarting it, all RAM became occupied, reaching about 98%. The reported RAM usage for the process is around 5.5 GB, which when combined with the 2.5 GB idle space would total 8 GB—about half of your system's RAM. I don’t understand what’s happening and what I should do. I’m not very confident in my English, so I hope you can help. Thank you!

Yes, you can restrict the memory used by the launcher in Minecraft Java Edition.

Have you attempted to restart Minecraft following the memory adjustment?

I adjusted the xmx to 1G in the launcher and restarted it, but the issue persists. The only difference is the displayed RAM when you press F3 in Minecraft.

You're using just a texture pack, not any mods.

Start by verifying if any background processes are consuming your RAM. Next, run cpu-z to confirm your RAM is being recognized correctly. Make sure your system reports 16GB of RAM in the relevant details. Then launch another game and monitor its RAM usage to see how it performs. These steps might not guarantee a fix, but they’re worth trying.

Memory consumption drops to 5GB (mincraft 2.7). However, five days prior it was similar after installing the texture pack.

You might also want to verify if the RAM sticks are properly linked to the dimmers, as this issue has occurred with someone I know before.

Additionally, if the Minecraft client appears compromised or suspicious, there could be another program running under the hood that isn't visible in Task Manager. Consider installing Malwarebytes (try the 14-day free trial) and performing a scan to check for threats.

Did you attempt to delete the texture pack from the client and then verify the RAM consumption remains elevated? If so, did you proceed by downloading another texture pack, placing it in the client, and rechecking the RAM usage?

I set up cpu-z and it shows 16 GB of RAM available, but the DRAM frequency seems to be around half the value configured in BIOS/UEFI. I’m unsure if this is typical. When playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, it uses about 1.4 GB total RAM usage, which matches what was reported. Without the texture pack, Minecraft runs using 2.7 GB, and with a different texture pack, total RAM usage reaches around 9 GB. There’s still an extra 1 GB compared to the expected idle amount (idle is sometimes 4 GB, sometimes 2.3 GB, plus 4 GB for Minecraft, which totals 8 GB).
