So in Minecraft I get pretty close to 60 fps. I have an i3 8100, GTX 1060, 6gb RAM, 16gb RAM, a Kingston A400 240gb SSD and a 240mm water cooler on the CPU. My old laptop with 256 vram, 4gb RAM and a power supply was able to achieve around 30 to 40 fps. I've already tried unlimited and other settings, and the benchmarks show I'm seeing much higher numbers than my old machine.

No, you haven't overlooked JVM arguments for Minecraft settings to optimize memory usage beyond the default.
