Minecraft connection issue
Minecraft connection issue
My friends and I chose to create an MC server using 0.0.0.0 for simplicity. I set it up on my desktop PC because I don’t use it often, while I rely more on my laptop. They can connect using my IP address, but I can’t with mine.
I’m aware that Minecraft performs poorly over local connections, so I tried connecting from the desktop IP, my own IP, and 0.0.0.0. Adding the port at the end worked in some cases, but others showed a timeout or connection refused.
I don’t know what to do now. I managed it before, but it was on Windows 7. Shitdows 10 seems too outdated for this. Any suggestions?
You may require your laptop's internal network IP for its configuration. For instance, your external port could be 0.0.0.0:25565, while the internal one might be 192.168.1.6:25565. I'm not certain if that's what you intended by "your ip," but it's worth trying. You can find this information by opening cmd and typing ipconfig.
There could also be router configurations blocking this process. It might be that your wireless network is considered separately from your wired connections, though this should have been addressed by checking the external IP of 0.0.0.0.
Based on my experience, nothing altered when I recently attempted to launch a Minecraft server on Windows 10. I suggest reverting to your dynamic IP assigned by your ISP. You can check your current address via "whatismyip.com" or by searching "what is my IP" on Google (as they do this now). Changing the address you use for login will help avoid many issues, especially if you're hosting a server accessible to random users.
I fixed the issue by contacting my ISP; it seems the LAN port was directly connected, which prevented me from getting a public IP. After moving the cable to another port and adjusting settings (port forwarding with this ISP is tricky), it worked fine.
