hello, i've been playing some minecraft recently and my average frame rate is around 20 fps on a non-modded server. my render distance is 16 chunks and i use optifine. my system includes an intel i5 4670k @4.4ghz with a gtx 980, and i have 11gb allocated for minecraft. i run every other game smoothly at max settings like bf4 and gta v, but minecraft is lagging significantly.

Reinstall it, and avoid using any additional mods to experience the original functionality.

Ensure you have the 64-bit version of Java installed. If that doesn't work, consider checking the Windows 10 edition since it operates on potatoes.
