They likely selected it since they were already acquainted with Java.
Well again, apart from the AMD graphics fix, Minecraft 1.8 is a terribly-optimized game. Rather than me explaining it, here's what one of the Optifine devs had to say about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/com...rformance/ Apart from the lack of optimization, there just simply isn't many people playing Minecraft anymore, so it's hard to justify making new 1.8 mods.
I've spent many hours investigating the issue since my R9 270X wasn't delivering solid FPS. Unless AMD issues an updated driver that limits performance when OpenGL games run (as it seems to be an OpenGL problem), I don’t think so. Other Minecraft players have had to purchase new Nvidia graphics cards to resolve their problems, and one individual achieved 120fps with an R9 280 while another upgraded to a GTX 970 that reached 1000fps without issues. I hope a real solution exists, but it appears unlikely, which is frustrating because my R9 270X is otherwise a strong card.
1. Lower the unnecessary fancy visuals.
2. Real distance should stay within 10 units.
3. Optimofine makes a huge difference; I’d struggle to run modpacks.
4. Mods are now available for 1.8, with many popular ones already out there.
5. People often choose well-known mods because they’re widely recognized and effective.
I believed it was a Java restriction, and Mojang had limited influence over it. Optimization is constrained because Java hides hardware details.
Using a device similar to yours can provide some relief, though it doesn't resolve the AMD graphics issue. In particular, when running Minecraft 1.6 or 1.7, the graphics card operates at just 20-30% capacity even with Max FPS and VSync turned off. In reality, it should be much higher—around 90-100%. This odd OpenGL behavior causes the card to enter a power-saving state unnecessarily, leading to poor in-game performance (my R9 270X achieves only 80-120fps instead of the expected 500fps). The same occurs with Space Engine, another OpenGL-based 3D modeling program, which also suffers from significantly low graphics performance.
In simple terms... those 390X are performing much worse in Minecraft compared to the older Mobility Radeon HD5650 in my laptop, especially with the Catalyst 13.4 drivers. Even with the drivers from 2010 that came with the card, it still doesn’t match up.
