Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor – what do people think?
Is Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor priced at 10€ a good deal? It’s currently 75% off on Steam, so I’m curious about trying it out. I tend to be cautious with spending, especially on games, but I want to support the developer since the game runs on Linux. I’ve also heard mixed reviews—it might not perform well on my Nvidia GT 750M. What do others think? Has anyone used it and found it worthwhile? Should I hold off until it drops further?
I purchased it on G2A about a year ago for ten dollars... It's not a terrible game, but a 750m won't match its quality.
10€ is a great deal, honestly. I got it last year for 25€, and it’s one of the top games I’ve played so far. It would have been a terrible choice not to buy it now.
Loved playing Shadow of Mordor for 20 to 30 hours – the game was really fun!
It’s not an awful port for Windows. I haven’t tested it on Linux before. The R9 285 runs a bit slower than my GTX 770, but it handled the game well at 1080p with 50–60 frames per second and a blend of high and ultra details. How much performance loss the R9 285 experiences at 60 FPS depends on the resolution you choose. For 2560x1080, you might need to lower the settings more. http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Middle-eart..._of_Mordor ^^ The game doesn’t support ultra widescreen natively, but you can modify it with third-party tools as explained in the link above. I suggest verifying this information before purchasing if you plan to play at 21:9, since ultra widescreen support is often unreliable. The gameplay is solid overall. It features a compelling "nemesis" system where defeated enemies climb the ranks, recall past actions, and become tougher targets. You can take control of Uruks and direct them toward your goals, then shape conflicts to elevate them further. The battles are engaging, though I’m concerned that RPG mechanics make your character overly strong too soon, and there’s no way to adjust difficulty. I found the experience more like a fantasy power fantasy than a balanced challenge, which isn’t usually my preference.
