I just got the game and installed it, but when I pressed play I saw a black screen with the error "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has stopped working." Have you experienced this too? What steps have you taken to fix it? I've tried reinstalling the game twice. There was a workaround that involved editing custom configuration files in the Shadow of Mordor folder. Please note the Windows message: the application name is faulty, and several system files were reported as corrupted. Additional details about the issue are available in the report.

Absolutely. I'm ready for anything, including the network drivers just in case.

What graphics card are you using? It might not support DX11. Are you running a 64-bit version of Windows with over 4GB of RAM?

I'm using a GTX 970 with 16GB RAM and Windows 10 64-bit, everything seems fine. After a complete Windows reset, the issue continues, indicating it's not caused by another program.

Open the game in your Steam library, turn off the Steam overlay. Run it with administrator privileges. Ensure your game isn’t using an excessive resolution. Adjust the settings in C:\Users\Shandon2.0\Documents\WB Games\Shadow of Mordor\settings.cfg to match your monitor dimensions. Some users reported issues with overclocked GPUs and suggested resetting them to factory defaults. Check forums for troubleshooting tips, including links from Steam discussions and official guides. If problems persist, consider requesting a refund or reaching out directly to WB Games via their contact page.

Thank you for the links and advice. I've already tried everything and it's still not resolving the issue. I've submitted a support ticket on WB Games' website. My main goal is to play the game without needing a refund, but if that's not possible, a refund would be necessary.

After a complete reinstall, I re-enabled compatibility mode and it functioned properly. If others face similar problems, please let me know! Additional tips from noisebomb44.
