Ensure your Windows 7 is configured without automatic updates enabled. Review the settings and verify they haven’t been altered. On my machine and my brother’s, the update options were recently switched from letting users decide to automatically installing updates. All new telemetry updates for Windows 7 were downloaded and installed without consent. Here’s a summary of the Windows 7 telemetry updates: https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/459263 If you’re using Windows 7, consider adjusting your settings to prevent automatic downloads unless you actively choose them.

It's odd you haven't switched to MSX. Honestly, Microsoft seems a bit outdated these days.

It's quite an unfortunate decision from Microsoft. I experimented with Windows 10 before the release of RTM. I'm considering a fresh installation on a dedicated partition once the upcoming version that supports upgrading via Win 7/8 keys becomes available. However, I have some concerns about Windows 10—like the uniform interface, the heavy use of what seems like an unappealing gray color, and worries about compatibility with older games. I also don't want Microsoft collecting telemetry from my system. I believe Windows 10 still needs significant improvements, and I'm not eager to switch completely just yet. My other drive is still running Vista for sentimental reasons, especially because its start menu looks so nice. When the time comes, I plan to upgrade from Vista to 10.

They can't send me new info, I block updates, they can't even save files without your permission. Plus they can't modify settings unless you upgrade, so avoid updating unless a major vulnerability is discovered.

Avoid setting them up, your setup remains active.
