Micro Stutter in games with 7950x3D and 4090
Hello everyone,
I'm facing some annoying micro stuttering episodes (every 5-10 seconds) while playing games like Valorant, Rocket League, and Helldivers 2. I've attempted to fix the problem myself but haven't seen any improvement.
Here are the details of my setup:
- Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 O24GB ROG Strix Gaming
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
- PSU: Seasonic Prime PX-1000
- BIOS Version: 2613
- RAM: 2x 16GB DDR5 G.Skill F5-6000J3038F16G
- OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (x64) Build 19045.4291 (22H2)
- EXPO I is enabled
- fTPM is disabled
To illustrate the problem, I've attached some screenshots (https://imgur.com/a/CWelFFo) showing frame timing from those games. The irregular pacing appears to be the cause of the stutters, while audio remains unaffected.
I've tried:
- Updating all drivers, especially GPU and motherboard firmware
- Checking CPU and GPU temperatures (normal ranges)
- Disabling fTMP as suggested in other forums
- Turning off EXPO
- Installing a fresh Windows version
- Upgrading BIOS from 1809 to 2613
The issue still persists. It might be related to my hardware configuration or a software/configuration problem. Any advice or information would be very helpful.
Thank you in advance for your support!
What are your real CPU and GPU temperatures when idle and under stress?
Is anything being overclocked (CPU, GPU, memory)?
Are your AMD chipset drivers completely current?

Is the Resizable Bar (Smart Access Memory) feature activated? It seems the option exists in Adrenaline settings; you may need to turn it off in the software and then restart the computer for changes to take effect. The setting for Resizable Bar is also available in Bios, so consider disabling it there if software adjustments fail.
I haven’t overclocked anything and the chipset is fully updated.
Current idle temperatures: GPU at 30°C, CPU at 48°C.
I plan to run tests under load soon.
BIOS settings had no effect—disabling the Resizable Bar didn’t help.
Other attempts:
- Set CPU SMC CPPC preferred cores to frequency and cache—no improvement.
- Windows is using the High Performance power plan.
- Tried disabling CCD1, but the problem continued.
- Updated to Windows 11, but faced issues with fTPM settings.
After several BIOS resets and adjustments, I was able to boot with everything enabled for the update. However, the Windows Update tool still didn’t recognize the system as ready. I’ll need to turn off fTPM next time to complete the installation.
I’ll prepare a fresh, updated Windows 11 install tomorrow and retry.
Appreciate your assistance!
If not already done, I suggest resetting the BIOS to its standard configuration. There are no specific adjustments required. It seems you've already explored various options and it's challenging to determine what factors affect the issue.
You may want to start with a consistent foundation.
