my vmware 14 workstation pro seems to behave oddly on both my PC and laptop. I keep encountering errors, especially when trying to run a Windows 10 VM with two threads and 2 GB of RAM. There are messages about memory allocation failures or insufficient physical memory. On my laptop, there was plenty of free space—about 4 GB—and on my PC, around 8 GB. I’ve heard this might be related to newer Ubuntu versions; I’m not entirely sure. The problem is that I need Ubuntu 17.10 because the kernel in version 16.04 is outdated, and my laptop has driver issues as a result. Anyone have any advice? Also, virtualbox works perfectly fine.

Try to give it a lower amount, and see if it works, if it does then you did not have enough FREE ram. If it doesn't that is an entire differnt story.

Do you have the software reinstalled and confirmed it has free memory available?

this occurred multiple times. it also happened during a Manjaro setup I was testing, though I assumed Arch could be unpredictable. EDIT: I also attempted it with a 1GB partition and it still didn’t work...
