Hi All I'm upgrading to a new rig as my current build is starting to show its age. Current PC: Intel I7 3820 @4.8Gz Asus P9X79 deluxe Samsung Vengeance 8X4Gb CL6 Asus Strix RTX 2080 Super OC Asus AX1200 Corsair H150i 2x Intel 520 120Gb (Raid-0 Boot Drive) 2x Samsung 860 evo 240 Gb (Raid-0 Game Drive) 4x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1Tb (Raid-10 Data Drive) For my new build I want upgrade to above with: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X Boxed ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming Samsung 980 Pro 500GB (Boot Drive) Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB (Game Drive) 2x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB (Raid-1 Data Drive) The issue that I'm facing (other than pricing ) is picking the memory. Currently I'm doubting between: Both are Samung B-die, Both are not on the QVL list for Ryzen 5000, but both are on the QVL for Ryzen 3000 on the same motherboard. G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3600C16Q-32GTZR (16-16-16-36) single rank G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZN (16-16-16-36) dual rank Knowing that Ryzen loves faster memory. And that B-die is currently still the best bet. is there a preference between both kits? And how high is the risk knowing these are not on the QVL list for 5000 series.
I favor the top-ranked selections since they usually perform better overall. For the QVL, you're investing in reliable memory, so you won't need to worry about that.
I still believe qvl matters. It ensures compatibility. Mostly stick to the recommended options on the qvl. Much easier than dealing with issues. *edit* I went back through your message. That sounds pretty intense... I’d probably take a chance and follow the qvl list. If it appears there, no matter the architecture, the xmp profile should still function. Even though it doesn’t specify one architecture, the mention for another is a solid indication of compatibility. Could be a mistake, though—lol.
CPUs are selling fast. I chose the pricier 4-drop kit since it’s likely better for overclocking and looks nicer with all banks active. Expected delivery Friday. Please let me know about compatibility. I’m excited about boosting the i7 3820 to Ryzen 9 5950x. My old Intel was fine, but it’s time to upgrade.
