they do work if you use apt to install it without sudo, but sudo is essentially what lets programs change system files or protected data. all those hardware monitoring tools require access to system files to operate. generally the Linux file system is straightforward, though some problems exist. multiple drives that aren’t removable can be frustrating to move the mount in my experience. everything else is usually simple. the built-in permission management, like chmod, is impressive—it doesn’t require downloading any special takeover tools whenever you need to set ownership. to be honest, you don’t have to pay for Windows. my Windows 10 key, which was actually a Windows 7 Pro key, stopped working, and I’ve been using Windows 11 Pro without a key. you can even customize things easily without one.
