Avoid using components with a TDP over 35 watts to prevent harming the power circuits. Unless you locate details about the same laptop supporting a 45-watt model.

there remain 35w i7 units worth considering, though it's wise to verify availability in the second-hand market first. if you struggle to find them at reasonable cost initially, you might want to reconsider.

This means you need to verify, as the supply for such an old item is quite unreliable.

Which dual-core i7 stands out among the options? The i7-3540M with two cores, four threads at 3 GHz, built on Ivy Bridge, released before the fourth quarter of 2013.

For me, the idea of "upgrade chance" feels like complete nonsense. I have no idea how they achieved such a percentage.

The outcome is determined by a chance value representing the likelihood of successfully changing from the Core i5-3210M (PGA) to another processor model. This figure reflects the percentage of motherboards that can handle both the original and upgraded CPUs, versus those that only support the original. A 100% indicates full compatibility across all relevant boards, while 0% means none of the original-supporting boards will work with the upgrade. Results for less common or unpublished chips are often limited due to testing constraints.
