I’m evaluating the key distinctions between the two boards beyond their appearance. The differences mainly lie in their form factors and compatibility options. The ROG Strix Z690-A supports M.2 NVMe SSDs, while the B660-A also offers M.2 slots but primarily for SATA drives. Your setup already includes SATA SSDs and HDDs, so adding NVMe drives would expand your storage capabilities without needing a full overhaul. The CPU pairing with 4x8 DDR4 RAM suggests a focus on stability and performance, which could influence how you manage memory expansion later. Overall, the main shift comes from moving to NVMe for faster data access, whereas SATA remains solid for reliability.

Overclocking is possible with the Z, but not with the B—there seems to be better connectivity on the Z.

Sure! The B660 pairs well with a 12700, while the 2 model comes with the K variant. Got it!

Yes, both CPUs function on both motherboards, but only Z-series chips with a K variant are suitable for overclocking (though non-K CPUs might still work but could be blocked by a Z series).

OC'ing and the Z board offer greater input/output capabilities for devices such as USB. This means a Z board could provide more, quicker USB connections.

The K series will focus on overclocking and improved connections. For a 12700K, consider using a Z690 if you plan to boost performance.

Here’s a clear, simplified breakdown of the comparison from the link you shared. The details are organized for easier understanding.
