I experienced a motherboard issue last week, which I resolved by replacing it, but soon after my PSU stopped working during a stress test on my GPU. Could a single factor be responsible for both failures, or is this just bad luck? My current setup includes: old motherboard Dell OptiX 9020, new one ASUS Z97-C CPU, i7 4790K at 4.65 GHz, 4GB RAM at 1653 MHz, and the PSU that failed was an Evga 600B GPU with an RTX 2060.

It's quite outdated. The components are over ten years old, and the wear from use will likely lead to failures eventually. After more than a decade in service, it's not surprising—mobile chip failures were fairly common during that time.

The motherboard was ten years old, which is common for issues around 5-6 years, and the power supply unit seems unreliable. It's unlikely the PSU caused the motherboard failure, but it probably wasn’t in great shape either.

Hopefully you secured a great offer for the age of the components; the built-in voltage regulation on Haswell made overclocking less enjoyable but still provided solid performance up to around 8000 gigahertz. I kept mine until the 3900x model fell out of favor. Ignoring color notes, it’s worth considering that a failing power supply might have reduced the lifespan of your other hardware.
