Hello everyone, just installed msi afterburner to check the stats. I ran a test in KSP and saw the numbers: GPU at 47°C, 35% CPU usage, 39% D3D11, 46 FPS. Still not getting higher frames. Rig specs: MB ASUS P8H67 rev 3.00, 2x KVR1333D3N9/4G, 2x KVR1333D3S8N9/2G, CPU i7-2600GC from Gigabyte, GTX 1060 Windforce OC, 6GB SSD, 300Mbps Wi-Fi adapter, PSU XILENCE XP600.
It restricts performance because it relies on just one main component, resulting in poor GPU efficiency, suboptimal code, and constraints from the game engine.
KSP isn't the ideal standard for any gaming experience. The software is quite flawed and not well-tuned for performance. Without clear details about your configuration, it becomes difficult to judge its effectiveness. Imagine playing on a high-resolution display at full settings—wouldn't you be impressed? Or picture yourself using lower resolutions with minimal adjustments, and still feeling underwhelmed. I'm planning to install KSP on my new rig just to test its capabilities. For context, my system with a Haswell Xeon, 980 core, and 32GB RAM maintained similar frame rates on a 1080p screen, but with better thermal management. The differences you're seeing might mainly stem from case design and cooling rather than the game itself.
I tested KSP on my Ryzen 9 3900x using a placeholder value of 980. With all settings enabled, at 1080p I achieved 45-50 FPS during ascent and over 80 in orbit. One core ran near 80% load, two cores at 50%, while the rest remained idle. It looks like the game is struggling, not utilizing any core consistently and keeping GPU usage low at 30-40%.
