Search for the power cap in the BIOS. It's divided into a short-term and long-term limit, allowing the CPU to ramp up more quickly during brief periods. If you prefer a fixed setting, adjust both limits to match. Not every BIOS provides this feature. When unavailable, disable turbo mode, which restricts the CPU to its thermal design power. You might also use software solutions such as XTU to manage it.

Setting limits on your CPU won't stop its power usage when not running. The 8600K doesn't consume much power even when fully loaded, and your 9700 rarely exceeded 130W unless you pushed it, often capping around 110W in games. Your 8600K should stay under 65W most of the time and draw less than 10W when idle.

Which motherboard are you running? It’s common to turn off Multi-Core Enhancement, as it’s typically enabled by default.

It seems I got it right, though the unit shows around 35 watts. I understand the software isn’t reliable, so I’ll test with a wall meter. Thanks to all!
