Hello everyone, I've spent over a decade enjoying MMORPGs, and since 2011 I've relied on MMO mice. My journey began with Naga Molten, and through the years I've gathered extensive experience with various 12-button key-pad models. This guide aims to share insights and ideas for other MMO players and gamers interested in MMORPG mice. The main devices I’ll focus on are the Razer Naga series, Logitech G600, Corsair Scimitar RGB, and Roccat Nyth. Other options include the Reddragon Perdition and Utech Venus. This resource is designed to support proper keybind configurations.

Supported Mice (Keyboards that handle keybinding well)
- Razer Naga series
- Logitech G600
- Corsair Scimitar RGB
- Roccat Nyth

Additional alternatives are the Reddragon Perdition and Utech Venus. This guide will help you follow similar logic for these models.

Setting Up Correctly – First Steps
Before diving into keymaps or adjustments, let's fine-tune your mouse in Windows. Start by checking your cursor settings:
- In Windows (Vista, Win7, Win8?, Win10?), go to Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Mouse.
- Alternatively, open Control Panel and search for "mouse" in the explorer.
- Navigate to Pointer Options → Motion slider → set to 6/11. This ensures a 1:1 speed ratio inside Windows. Lower or higher values change how Windows interprets movement. Setting it to 6/11 gives a perfect match.
- Uncheck the "Enhance pointer precision" box. This turns off native mouse acceleration, which can improve responsiveness.

After adjusting, install your mouse's driver and restart your PC. If you've already done this, skip to the next section.

Checking Mouse Polling Rate
Once installed, verify your mouse’s polling rate in the software: 1000Hz is ideal for minimal latency (about 1ms). Confirm it’s enabled in the settings. This ensures smooth aiming and movement.

Getting Comfortable with the 12-Key Layout
Using a 12-button layout offers flexibility. Regardless of grip style—claw or palm—learn to rest your thumb on the middle row, especially the "2" key. This provides a stable reference point. Most players find rows 1–3 and 4–6 easiest to reach. Some prefer 456 for comfort; adjust based on what feels natural.

For the Logitech G600, consider disabling the third button for better counter-pressure control. If you're a "Clicker" who relies on hotbar icons instead of buttons, mastering hotkeys is essential. These are crucial for avoiding click-heavy actions and improving gameplay efficiency.

Two Approaches to Using 12-Key Modes
- **Naga Hotkey**: Allows multiple keybindings with a single modifier. Great for quick access but uses only one finger per key.
- **Naga Movement**: Offers full hand control, letting you use both hands for hotkeys. This enhances precision and reduces hand strain.

Naga Hotkey is popular because it lets you use WASD-style keys with a single modifier, freeing your left hand for movement. Naga Movement expands this further, using one hand for all hotkeys, which many find more intuitive.

Keymap Templates
Most MMORPG players prefer Naga Hotkey because it aligns with their existing habits—similar to FPS or adventure games that use standard keybinds. Razer originally designed the Naga mouse to support hotkeys, so your left hand stays free for movement and modifiers. This setup reduces confusion and streamlines default settings.

Naga Movement Benefits
- Uses one hand for all hotkeys, improving ergonomics.
- Keeps aiming and movement separate, minimizing accidental presses.
- Enhances multitasking in combat or exploration.

Ergonomics Matter
Most players adapt quickly to Naga Movement, though some may prefer the straightforward layout of Naga Hotkey. Experimentation is key—finding what feels best for your playstyle is essential.

Tips & Notes
- Practice positioning your thumb on the "2" key for stability.
- Use QWEASD mirror for full 8-directional movement, letting you hold MB2 and move in any direction.
- Demonstration videos are available to clarify how Naga Movement functions in action.

Questions? Comments? I’ll keep refining this guide as I gather more tips and feedback. Feel free to reach out if anything isn’t clear—I’m here to help!

In most games using WASD controls, movement restrictions on the mouse are largely unnecessary because you can already navigate in eight directions with those keys and aim with the mouse. This is especially true for games that depend a lot on precise shots (this comes from years of playing SMITE with all actions except movement limited to my Naga).

I mentioned earlier that understanding the guide helps clarify this design choice. You can't form a conclusion without first examining it. Consider this perspective (MMORPG context): you only need one finger to move, yet you have 8–20 abilities plus more with items and consumables. WASDQE is just another set of six buttons, similar to having them on your thumb pad. For WildStar, Naga Movement stands out above all. It requires pressing many keys at once or in rapid succession, which isn’t ideal. Using four fingers for this is much more efficient than relying solely on your thumb. Plus, everything in WildStar is a skillshot. I changed to Naga Movement about two years ago and can't go back to using mouse hotkeys. Probably only TERA and Vindictus, but even now I prefer Naga Movement. For most MMOs, combat controls on the mouse will feel better than having movement tied to the mouse for fighting. If you’ve played an RTS or MOBA, you’ll grasp why the natural layout—controls for orientation on the right hand and skills on the left—is so intuitive.

It brings back memories of the dual joystick configuration I used, and I’ve adapted Minecraft to that system. I think I’ll write a tutorial on dual joysticks—great resource for many users! Learning the G600 setup took some time, but it’s definitely worth the effort.

Great resource. Even though I didn’t go through everything, I understood the main points. Not a huge gamer, but I picked up a M95 mouse and might give it a shot.
