So the data i’m using is from Scan Uk and i’m 520th in line out of 1400 and was reinsured by Scan AMD said there have plenty of units coming over the next few weeks. Fast forward a few weeks and they still haven’t received x1 5900x and the expected quantity for this week is x24 and x24 expected for the next week which is shocking by AMD if this is what they meant by “plenty of unit”. It seems like they are priorities regions and the Uk is not one of them as Micro-center have had regular supply of 5900x’s and they’ve even been in stock for a few hours from what i’ve heard. Honestly this seems really poor from AMD only planning to ship x24 units after 4 weeks. Even Nvidia has been doing much much better. They are still sold out but they are sending regular shipments of 400+ GPU units weekly. Has anyone heard anything about when we may actually see a considerable amount of 5900x’s, because at this rate i’m going to be waiting until Ryzen 6000’s?
It's normal for AMD to face challenges right now. They need to produce APUs for the PS5 and Series X, while also meeting strong demand for new GPUs because of the shortage of RTX cards and high interest in new CPUs. Adjusting their manufacturing capacity is tough, and they can't simply increase output without planning.
When Zen 2 came out, I ordered a 3900X from OCUK on launch day, expecting a few weeks before it arrived. Two months later, OCUK called and suggested I switch to a 3800X because they didn’t know when more would be in stock. This happened before the pandemic.
The problem lies in uneven distribution rather than production issues. One micro center store had significantly higher counts than the rest of the UK. Evan Brazil received a large shipment, but the challenge is getting products evenly across locations.
I'm on the shortlist for a 5800x with Scan, currently at 220 spots. It dropped from 300+ when pre-orders began, mainly because only 30 orders came through. I have a 5600x and might drop it, but I'm waiting to see if it gets available this year.
I could just skip and grab the 5600x ad, that’s all. I’m mainly using it for gaming, so the rest of the parts will be unnecessary for a while. Right now I’m running an i7 3770k and I’m really eager to see everything work because the CPU is the final piece I need for my upgrade. I also need more storage and can’t use my new NVMe drive on the old system, so I have to wait until the upgrade is done before I can use it.
