you're considering purchasing the X570 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 at a discounted price. however, the board features several unusual design aspects: 1) it lacks a front type C slot on premium models from 2019! 2) both Thunderbolt 3 and M.2 slots run through the chipset, even though the CPU has detected NVMe lanes. this seems confusing based on the diagram you shared. regarding your technical question about adding a USB 3 female header to the Type C slot and connecting it to the included Type C cable—will it work with a 10GB cable, and will power consumption change? please see the photo for reference.

Front Type C matches Front Type A in terms of functionality. As a USB port, the standards like Type C, A, and others share similar signals. The actual USB specification (3.2 Gen 2, 3.1 Gen 1, etc.) is what counts. I’m not sure about the picture; Ryzen allocates four lanes from the CPU for an M.2 drive. It’s possible Asrock used that lane for the TB3 chip, but there’s no clear reason both would come from the chipset. You might be confused—USB 3.1 (also known as 3.1 Gen 2 and 3.2 Gen 2) female headers are actually for Type C. Just use a USB 3.0 to 3.1 header adapter; it looks correct.

The issue lies in the claim that it will be a 5GB header, while I believe most types C front headers are 10GB. The USB3 header is problematic for me and many others, often causing failures. I wasn’t sure what the correct term was, so thank you for clarifying.

Type C handles USB 2.0 well, which is why most phones work without issues—I haven’t encountered any broken connectors on my last four boards, so it seems I’m not the best at checking connection strength.

I understand your concerns about the header design and the limited charging speed. The current setup might not be ideal for your needs.
