I haven't encountered any problems with Chrome. It performs well, offers a powerful development environment for web projects, and is widely compatible with my school's learning management system.
I avoid Chrome because of the high resource demand when opening several tabs, though Firefox isn't significantly better lately regarding performance and reliability. I stick with version 7 since upgrading to 8 isn't necessary for me.

The main point is the start bar isn’t crucial, right? Also, I’ve noticed Chrome slows down when multiple windows and many tabs are open—any browser would handle that kind of load.
