One by one, my games won't launch. I understand it's not a graphics card problem, as I replaced it for other reasons once the issue began.
Most titles start properly but then either display a black screen or crash. I have my main drive moved to a secondary drive, and Steam works with either. That's all I can truly say—besides I can't update my drivers because my internet speed is too slow to download new ones.

this machine then doesn't seem to have any other updates besides the drivers. Because windows updates are bigger than driver updates.

I've never needed to upgrade Windows
And roughly half of my Steam games require a patch.

Your internet might be slow, so fix it and install the drivers.

I'll look for a way to download the drivers from another source.
We don't have a good internet connection, but we have the best plan available.

You definitely need to upgrade your system since using old software leads to many problems over time.
If your internet speed is the best available, you might be surprised by how poor the service feels.
However, if you have a 4G connection, you may need to connect your device to your mobile and face high phone bills due to frequent updates.
Without a 4G network or the ability to tether your connection, you'll have to wait months for downloads before we can offer any guidance here.

If you have a 1-2Mb download speed, it's sufficient. Keep the PC open overnight for downloading and updating Windows. After that, move on to the GPU. We can't proceed further without first ensuring the latest drivers and updates are installed to fix any software problems. Then check the GPU temperatures and any issues with drives or memory usage.
