Hey everyone! I understand this isn’t a universal solution, but my SSD (C:\) holds 120GB with about 111GB available. It typically leaves between 15-20GB free. Instead of shutting down my PC, I usually put it to sleep each night. Over the past week, my free space has dropped steadily—from around 15GB to just a few gigabytes. Yesterday it was down to 6.8GB and marked as “red” in My Computer Today. When I turned it on again, only about 3.11GB remained—just a tiny fraction.
I tried deleting or uninstalling files, clearing the cache from browsers like FF and Chrome, using Windows cleanup tools for temp files and thumbnails, and even moved some data to my server. After that, I rebooted and saw the free space jump dramatically from 5.5GB to over 16GB. Still, it’s not ideal.
What could possibly cause such a sharp drop in free space right after a restart? There must be many factors at play!
