Maintaining steady performance when working with NAS in Windows 11
Hi. My Synology NAS has been working well for a while now. On Windows 10 it functioned smoothly, but after switching to Windows 11 about a year ago, I noticed frequent freezes. Specifically, when I try to open or copy video files, the Windows Explorer pauses for 2 to 60 seconds. If I highlight another video that hasn’t been opened in a while, the transfer stops completely and the file explorer becomes unresponsive. Once it resumes, the process continues. Watching videos works fine, but opening them causes delays. I have the NAS connected to a drive letter and use File Explorer to access it. A Plex server runs on my C: drive, streaming videos from the NAS without problems. The Web UI also works without lag. It seems the problem is limited to Windows Explorer inside this environment. I’m unsure where to begin troubleshooting. My searches suggest slowdowns in Windows Explorer on Windows 11, but local files and another NVMe drive are unaffected. Copying files to my internal drives doesn’t cause any issues. Thanks ahead of time.
I haven't seen that Synology article, but I can review the fixes it recommends.
