Main PC failure to start the HDD while another works fine. Issue detected on Windows 10.
My computer struggles to start or read from certain hard drives, causing an I/O error during attempts. The drive functions properly on other machines and its data remains intact with backups. I've tested six different SATA cables and all active ports on my MOBO, but the issue persists. Last week, a Seagate Barracuda 4TB began disconnecting randomly while in a file manager; it would close unexpectedly when opened to any files on that drive. After several hours, it stopped connecting altogether. This is the second occurrence, and I don’t recall a solution from the first incident. When trying to initialize the disk, I receive an I/O error. Disk management displays size and model details, but Seatools only gets basic info, while CrystalDiskInfo can’t see the drive. The drive works when connected to another Windows 10 PC with the same configuration, so I’ve backed up my data to an external drive. I’m completely stuck on how to resolve this problem. So far, I’ve tried deleting drivers, using different cables and ports, initializing via Device Manager, and running Seagate diagnostic software—none helped. I’m considering switching to a USB dock as a temporary fix, though that would delay purchasing a new drive. I’ll also steer clear of Seagate products in the future, given they offer the cheapest mechanical drives, which is unfortunate since this issue might be driver-related.
