It was a languid Sunday, and I felt uninspired, so I checked my Cinebench results. Let the numbers come out, then watch the speed curves and voltage changes (photos included). That seemed unusual, so I used ThrottleStop to test the bench. Around the midpoint (30 seconds), the power cap appeared. Examining the details reveals Core at PL 1 and Ring at EDP OTHER. At idle, my clock runs between 4.8-5.0GHz. After a half-minute of stress, it drops to 4.2-4.4GHz. I’m wondering what might be behind this behavior. No BIOS tweaks have been made recently—only a new GPU and PSU were added. The PSU came from a friend who had it leftover from an old build, so it’s still in use. Check the ThrottleStop TPL window to view the PL1 and PL2 turbo limits. If they match default values, the 10850K behaves as expected. In the BIOS, adjust PL1 and PL2 limits for better performance when fully loaded. The Limit Reasons column highlights issues—PL1 is the cause. When setting your 10850K to 300W, ensure proper cooling is in place. After modifying BIOS settings, remove the ThrottleStop.INI file to prevent it from retaining old values.
It seems this might just be typical behavior. I wasn't sure something was amiss during one of my other problems, which turned out to be a dead AIO. Running tests probably missed the signs—like temperature spikes and drops in frequency/voltage. I'm considering increasing the TDP or trying undervolting. Power restriction throttling occurs naturally when limits are applied at their standard settings. Adjust the CPU to the voltage it requires for stability. Rather than an undervoltage condition, I modified the load line parameters to lower the voltage. I favor keeping all cores active consistently at a steady 5000 MHz frequency. This approach simplifies achieving stable voltage but reduces some light-load performance compared to default turbo settings.
