She gave me her M1 MacBook Air and asked me to back up her files. I set up a time machine drive and tried to restore her device, but everything worked until the transfer halted and prompted reconnection. After retrying, the drive disappeared from both of our devices. I checked various USB adapters and tested it in different environments—Windows partition, SeaTools—but it still shows as empty. I’m wondering if the drive might have been wiped during the transfer. The 256GB source to a 1TB external SSD seems like a big jump, but I’m not sure what caused the issue.
