MacOS has some issues that can make it unstable. Disk Utility often triggers these problems, and even opening a simple browser can cause random crashes on your MacBook Air 2015. Various diagnostics reveal mounting and file system errors, such as failed verification steps and corrupted snapshots. The system struggles with space management and recovery processes, leading to unexpected shutdowns.

Intel Macs can handle other operating systems as well. A Linux liveCD might be a good option. It’s unlikely the issue is strictly MacOS, since these devices run a modified older Unix called BSD. Their command-line tools often perform better than Windows equivalents. If you’re familiar with Windows, it probably won’t make much difference. The Mac GUI mainly serves as a user interface for the command line, showing what actions are being performed. It’s less visually appealing than animations or graphics, but more informative. According to what I’ve learned, the problem likely extends beyond just performance issues.

I'd prefer using First Aid in Recovery or Internet recovery mode instead of during macOS boot, because I think that's what was done. It's like trying to fix a car while it's in motion—that's essentially what First Aid live mode does. Attempting to rebuild the file system on a disk that's already being used.
