I recently sold my EVGA 3080ti to a coworker who’s been using it for about a week and a half. It has been functioning normally until last night. Around midnight, he reported that the card suddenly started making loud noises, waking everyone up in the house—louder than any TV at full volume. I’m unfamiliar with this issue. Could it be a power surge affecting the system, or something else entirely? He said restarting the computer resolved the problem. The warranty is still valid until June. I’d appreciate advice on troubleshooting or next steps to determine the cause. I wouldn’t want to risk sending the card back to EVGA if it’s not the hardware at fault.

Inquire about the situation after turning off the device, similar to touching a wire near a fan. Accidents can occur during installation. Ask him to verify the wiring again. Also, since this happened at night, consider it might have been louder than it actually was—just one possibility.

A shutdown of a computer can still make sounds due to internal components or fans running briefly. If it wakes up, the noise likely comes from parts like fans or cooling systems rather than speakers.

There are serious concerns about the GPU being the source of the noise. It would be difficult to imagine any GPU producing such a loud sound.

I thought it was activated. The description in the original text seems to match that.

It's the second point. It's simple to overlook details to reinforce your case, but ultimately it fails. I'm just making an educated guess, so we'll need to keep waiting.

He has been experiencing issues for roughly two and a half weeks. The system has worked smoothly until yesterday evening. Where did you obtain this data? It appears you're overlooking and reinforcing too much yourself. Edited February 16, 2024 by leclod

No. A GPU can't make that amount of noise. The fans can whine but not that loud The electronics can coil whine but not that loud. There isn't anything there to make that noise. Not like a car's belts what can rub and screech. He is exaggerating, and pretty badly at that. Or outright lying. Did he mention giving the card back to you, and getting his money back at all?

The card comes with a warranty, he requested the details to proceed. He hasn’t asked for a refund. We need to confirm whether it was in sleep mode or active. I thought it was awake.
