Mac uses Terminal for setup, so Bootcamp is necessary.

You’d need to download the Linux Mint ISO, create a bootable USB drive, and then install it on your computer following the on-screen instructions.

It's clear the analogy between water and coke is being made, but OSX and Linux really differ in many aspects. Just because you have OSX doesn’t mean you’re exempt from needing Linux. That’s what I was trying to convey.

Certainly, but based on the details they'll work well too. I use multiple Server VMs together with Client VMs on my W540, and everything functions smoothly. From a spec standpoint, it includes an i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and several SSDs. I also replicate this setup on my 2011 MBP, which runs perfectly as well.
