I attempted to use Tonymac's approach but it didn't function, so I'm considering getting a Mac ISO or Dmg file and creating a bootable USB instead.

It's not that straightforward, actually. OS X is better than Windows in some ways, but most people stick with Windows because they play games.

It's the only advantage I can imagine being the ability to build projects from a Git repository using the terminal. Anything else... it just looks improved.

Not sure what that is... I really like OSX—its feel, appearance, animations, scrolling, installing apps, Mission Control, Apple TV display, wireless connectivity, spaces and exposure, organizing photos with geotags, etc. Yeah, I just prefer it.

It's simpler to handle, I see your point. However, in my view, the main issue is hardware compatibility... You need to use particular components to ensure it functions properly. Otherwise, it would cause major problems.
