My mom is working through some tests to become certified for giving vaccines, and the certification needs a specific app. It's a browser app, but it's really frustrating. They need a 22" or bigger screen because the images look terrible on smaller monitors, making it impossible to read. I connected her laptop to their TV, but Safari didn't work at all—no audio at all. Firefox handles YouTube videos with sound, but Safari can't process anything. There aren’t any helpful settings, tips, or fixes available. Switching the system to internal speakers doesn’t help either. Firefox works fine, but Safari struggles. This whole situation is really annoying. It feels like a relic from 1996. My mom quit trying, and she won’t do it now. I don’t trust Apple, and this kind of problem won’t change my opinion.

Seems like the problem isn't primarily a technical one but rather a personal matter.

It looks like the layout is extremely poor, making it hard to view on a small screen. PBUAK here

Focusing closely on the pictures only made them look hazy. It required three restarts and warnings of serious trouble, but eventually my mom managed to get it to show on the TV and play the audio through the built-in speakers. Spent two hours trying to fix things so they worked properly.

Absolutely, a PC would definitely not behave like that.

I don’t make any statements about PC in this discussion. Still, I’m confident Linux would have offered a smoother experience, even without much prior knowledge.

This appears to be a typical PEBKAC situation. Sorry, but this isn’t worth taking seriously. I run macOS on various Mac models across all age groups, and PCs of every age also work fine. None of them encounter this problem. If you need an alternative audio source, just switch it in System Preferences. It might be a software issue, but I’m not convinced the Mac is the culprit. Absurd. If it doesn’t function in Safari, try another browser. Safari is essentially the only one that confuses people. It’s a decent browser, but Chrome simply works better.

I tested it for 45 minutes and found Safari failed completely when connected to a TV or external monitor. Firefox handled everything smoothly, and audio routed correctly to the right device. With Safari, no sound worked at all once the display was switched on.
