M.2 to PCIe connection, not the reverse.
Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem and have a suggestion to test. I own a PCIe WiFi adapter that includes an adapter bracket, which would normally allow a riser cable. However, my graphics card is occupying all the slots, making it unusable. From what I know, M.2 devices work through the PCIe system. I found adapters for M.2 to PCIe 4x on AliExpress and am curious if that would be feasible. It might be easier to run a PCIe riser cable, but space is tight, so I'd likely have to route it around the GPU to avoid fans, resulting in a long cable—probably 30-40cm. In that case, using my spare M.2 slot seems more practical. Should this work or is it just a waste of time? TIA Edit: The motherboard in question is an ASUS Prime B550M-A AM4 adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10050031...NzEwMzc5Mg. wifi adapter: TP Link AC1200
Without understanding your configuration it's difficult to give guidance, as not every M.2 slot performs the same—some connect via the chipset at a slower rate, have fewer lanes, and some are only SATA in size. The outcome really depends on the specific board and how the slot is keyed.
They perform tasks (though I don't possess that exact role) but keep in mind that you must gently angle the cable at 90 degrees to match an expansion port; you'll probably need a long one. My setup uses a 25CM adapter, which barely fits into the slot beneath the GPU on an ITX board. You can't connect it without using a bulky low-profile bracket if the motherboard obstructs it. It would have to reach a slot without any board above, and even then the case depth might pose a challenge because the adapter's base extends further than expected.
I’m ready to try it out and find out how it goes. I believe there’s a 90-degree angle option, which should work fine. The adapter bracket is already included with the WiFi adapter. I hope once it arrives I can play CS without any lag.
