M.2 SSD isn't being detected and two of the four RAM slots aren't responding.
Hello Linus Fanatics, I'm trying to set up a PC and I'm facing some issues. I purchased a used motherboard with four DIMM slots and LGA1151v2 support, which is compatible with Intel CPUs from the 8th and 9th generation. After installing everything and placing four RAM sticks in the slots, the computer won't start. I attempted to install an 8GB stick in each slot, but only slots 3 and 4 are working. My M.2 SSD is also problematic—it doesn't appear to be connected, even though it contains my Windows Boot Manager and 64-bit Windows 10. I've tried reseating it multiple times without success. I'm still unsure what else to do. Please let me know if this helps or if you have any advice. Thanks!
Review your motherboard manual for these points. If you have an SSD or a second SSD, check if any ports will be turned off. Consider whether your RAM QVL matches the motherboard’s specs—this could indicate a faulty board or damaged slots where two RAM sticks won’t work. Also, assess if the CPU controller can support four RAM modules; otherwise, it might be a hardware issue. As a last resort, try reseating the CPU. Cleaning DIMM and M.2 slots with ISO-A is new to me, so I don’t have an opinion. Updating the BIOS should be safe, but proceed with caution and research the specific BIOS version you plan to install.
