I possess an ASUS Prime B550M-K motherboard with a PCIe slot, but certain components prevent me from installing the M.2 standoffs. I’m unsure how to take them out.

These mounts are designed for the standard 2280 configuration. They’re likely fixed to the board and can’t be taken off. Insert your M.2 device and secure it with a corresponding screw in that mount. The screws are probably included with the motherboard.

Examine the rear side of the board. Check if they’re fastened with a nut or if they’re soldered. This will reveal their connection method.

they can simply be pressed down. they must be forced out and then placed into the correct slot since they’re installed in the usual opening.

They’re there for a reason—so you can securely attach the standoff. Decide the best spot, often around 80mm from the M.2 port, and fasten the standoff there. Next, place your NVMe drive, align it with the standoff, and secure the screw to keep the drive in position. You can also install the drive directly without a standoff, but this may damage the M.2 connector over time. Let me know if you need more details.
