M.2 NVMe and Gigabyte Z97 boards
M.2 NVMe and Gigabyte Z97 boards
I previously discussed this topic, but I’m seeking additional perspectives. Do Gigabyte Z97 motherboards featuring a single M.2 PCIe x2 slot support NVMe? Would the SSD be recognized by the BIOS and be bootable? Additionally, would it be detected in the BIOS and remain bootable when paired with an M.2 NVMe to PCIe 3.0 x4 adapter card on these boards?
They need an NVMe M.2 port, and if that's available, an NVMe SSD will function. Most NVMe PCIe card connections fail to work.
The discussion doesn't reference NVMe. You're currently using SATA, but you were expecting better speed from a newer NVMe storage device.
Right, there is NO performance gain for NVMe over SATA though. UNless you're doing high end editing, which you're not with that rig. SSD's are a full on bullshit item that keeps getting hyped and misleadingly marketed. NVMe drives WLL NOT give you faster anything in your use cases.
I think I clarified the situation. He’s repeating his questions about them, wanting additional perspectives. His self-doubt is affecting him, but SATA helps ease that. If he’s unsure, he can boot from SATA at the same cost.
Fair. I didn’t say that, though I did manage to start with NVMe on an MSI Z97 G5 without any problems. Still, I can’t confirm it for Gigabyte boards.
It's not about self-doubt; I'm seeking more perspectives on Gigabyte Z97 motherboards. Some users report positive results while others have mixed experiences. While it's clear NVMe offers speed advantages over SATA, personal perception of the difference may vary.
