I'm setting up a classic hackintosh using traditional methods. I'm avoiding VM or Linux UniBeast on new hardware, sticking to an Aorus Wi-Fi MOBO and a WD black M.2 SSD. I've learned that macOS doesn't work well with M.2 drives, and I'm not sure why, but I don't fully grasp the workaround. Can I still insert my USB drive into a machine that only has an M.2 slot for storage and create a bootable disk?

Previously, Apple relied on a customized NVMe adaptation exclusive to their systems. Now, most NVMe devices should function natively with the latest macOS versions. Steer clear of Samsung PLUS drivers since they don’t integrate well with macOS. For your specific setup, problems should be avoided. I suggest using a comprehensive installer such as Niresh https://www.hackintoshzone.com/

You're on a classic system—Catalina in Mojave is definitely a solid choice. That's a great setup for a refined experience.
