How many spray paint cans do you think you'll require to achieve a complete, polished finish?

I believe using two cans of primer and two cans of high gloss would be sufficient, especially if you're painting with a single color. However, for three colors, you should have at least one can of each for the top coat.

the mobo tray has primer on it already. So I'll be spraying on the black on the whole case as is...unless there is a secret to spray painting?
the cabling will be of other colors, the case color will be matte black/flat black.
OH, I also neglected to mention, that drive cage at the bottom was stolen from an IBM rig I had in 2000.

Lutfij:
how many spray paint cans do you think I’ll need for a complete finish?
Rustoleum has a new product that combines paint and primer in one, it works on almost any surface type, so you should look into it. It could save time, 2 cans should suffice, but if the inside work is finished, 3 might be safer.
It’s wise to have more than you think you need, since running out at the end of a project is the worst possible outcome.
For your situation, if the case material is strong, you can do some heavy modifications and still have a solid result, but if the case isn’t sturdy enough, you’ll have to decide that yourself.
My two cents.

Using spray cans offers long-term advantages when you thoroughly prepare the surface, applying at least two layers of primer and three to four coats of paint. I aim to wait a minimum of 45 minutes between layers if possible, and ensure an overnight break between primer and color. For rattle cans, thinner, multiple layers tend to work better than thicker ones.
