Do you have any background on using a device with open and active LTE/CA connectivity? You own a Huawei B525S-23A, which is functional but remains a closed system. No official OS firmware exists—only some custom modifications. The hardware works well, but I’m unsure what the router actually does. I’ve installed a modified firmware and have shell access inside, though running Android as a router isn’t something I’m comfortable with. I’d really like a device that supports OpenWrt (at least in a development build) so I can customize it according to my needs and the ISP’s requirements.

Which nation are you located in? Cradlepoint products perform well and appear to be top cellular routers, though they come at a higher price point. Are there any restrictions on the number of devices your ISP permits?

The situation is quite interesting. In central Europe, hardware choices are becoming more flexible, but I'm still limited to a handful of brands for routers. 5G options like Huawei and ZTE seem available, with Alcatel possibly offering some as well. Custom-built solutions using OpenWRT appear feasible, though finding a suitable LTE M2 modem under $200 is challenging. Quactel is definitely out of the question due to its closed-source approach. Competition seems sparse beyond Huawei and ZTE, especially in the EU market. It appears major US/EU 4G products are scarce, leaving Huawei and ZTE as the primary players. Cradlepoint might be another contender for enterprise hardware, but I haven't encountered specific models yet.
