Hi, I'm an igfx user with a 4650g. I just bought an MSI RX570 4G and am thinking about upgrading to PCIe Gen 4. I need at least six cores on the CPU, so I was considering a R5 3600. Could you give some advice to help me decide?

There’s no advantage to it. GPUs work the same on PCIe 3.0 and 4.0. The only change is SSD speeds, which you won’t really see. You’re just wasting money. It’s smarter to discard them instead of keeping them.

Building on what came before... for the 980 Pro SSD, it doesn’t add value unless you have a very specific scenario requiring those fast sequential reads on a 256GB storage. Probably not. The R5 3600 can handle it, though—it lacks an integrated graphics unit so you’d also need to purchase a dedicated GPU. EDIT: The RX 570 4G also works without PCIe 4.0.

It's not about speed or chasing higher FPS. I don't play much and can run smoothly on 4650g easily. I enjoy upgrading PC parts and don't need another 8x2 for 32Gb. Just for fun it brings me joy, even though I own an RX570 and might play Stardew Valley with it. I didn't require 980pro, a water cooler, or a 550 motherboard. In short, if this brings me happiness, I'll do it. Selling 4650g could help me buy a Ryzen 3600 later, though prices vary by country. So, the Ryzen 3600 is a solid upgrade option or there might be better alternatives.
