Hey guys, I just measured the amount of power, that my pc draws from the wall while sitting at idle at the desktop. Its about 110W. My CPU is a 5900x and my GPU a gtx 1070. I run a custom water cooling loop. Is there a way to reduce the idle power consumption? I am running the windows balanced power setting for ryzen, which came with the chipset driver. Thanks for your help

The only advice I can offer is checking the BIOS settings to undervolt your CPU. Most CPUs require more voltage than necessary, and reducing it slightly won’t noticeably impact performance. For power usage, especially during gaming or work tasks, it’s best to stick with high-power profiles.

The loop is what's using the most power since the pump draws a significant amount of watts. An A1070 isn't the most efficient option, but the 5900x can operate in eco mode. Generally, a standard custom loop pump runs between 14 to 25 watts. If you have many fans, each one adds its own wattage, and then there are all the other parts that keep the PC running.

I checked HWINFO64 and found the CPU uses around 80W when idle. It suggests using curve optimization. Are there any gains from traditional voltage scaling instead?

Have you checked if ECO mode is activated in your BIOS? I'm not sure if it helps when idle, though it might lower power use during heavy loads—it's simple to adjust. You'll find it near the overclocking settings.

I attempted to turn on eco mode, but it had little impact. Even after disabling all autostart applications, the monitor continues to consume 100W when connected to the power source.
