Lower average fps
Lower average fps
Hi everyone,
About three months ago, my FPS changed quite a bit, especially in Valorant. I experienced significant fluctuations in FPS and my input lag increased a lot. Sometimes after updating Windows or doing random updates like changing the GPU or service, the problem would disappear only to reappear a few days later. Now it’s coming back but not as badly, though it’s still frustrating because I know I could get much better performance and lower the lag. The FPS is still usable, but I realize I could reach higher speeds if I focus on reducing the delay. Honestly, this makes me hesitant to play since I can’t perform at my best.
For instance, when I was using low settings at 1080p and everything was working well, I could hit 250-420 FPS during a match with only 3-6ms delay. Now it varies much more—FPS drops to 140-260 again and is still playable, but the delay feels much worse, even though it’s now around 5-12ms.
I’m not sure if this is related to my GPU, OS issues, or Valorant itself—maybe it’s an Anticheat problem. I remember this started after Windows 11 version 22h2. Also, I’m not sure if my PC is detecting my CPU overclock or RAM overclock (xmp).
My specs:
CPU: R5 3600
RAM: Patriot 16GB, 3200MHz
MBO: Asrock B450 Steel Legend
GPU: GTX 1070 8GB
PSU: EVGA 500W BRONZE
SSD: 512GB Samsung M.2 NVMe Gen3
Overclock settings: CPU up to 4.2GHz at 1.21V, XMP 3200 on RAM and +150MHz on GPU clock in MSI Afterburner
The issue is quite complex. Initially, overclocking can sometimes lead to a decrease in game frame rate, so you might want to try reducing the frequency to see if it improves performance. Additionally, installing Windows 10 could help, as it no longer receives major feature updates and won’t affect the game frame rate from OS changes. You can also assess overclocking stability using benchmark software.
