Low single core score at 5950x with PBO
Low single core score at 5950x with PBO
Hi, I'm working on improving my 5950x performance. After a solid overclock with PBO, temperatures rose to around 90°C when using full load. I've adjusted the PBO settings and now see a multicore score of about 11,000, with 4.4GHz all-core and 620 singlecore (estimated ~4.85GHz). In Cinebench R20, I'm seeing singlecore scores near 660, while others report singlecore around 660 as well. Some users mention singlecore scores of about 660 with PBO, but mine is lower. I'm using the settings 210/235/245 with a -20 offset on all cores and +50 (higher scores if I push it to +100). The multicore test stays under 80°C and singlecore below 60°C. Could this be a chip issue, or am I missing something? Any advice on boosting singlecore performance would be great.
I prefer TDC over PPT to restrict maximum current. I haven’t really understood why a professional suggested this or if it was just their preference. For now, keep your PPT at 250 and tweak your TDC to manage wattage. Experiment with around 150TDC and observe the results. Fine-tune your TDC until your output matches your current configuration. I’ve tried this and it didn’t affect the wattage much. From what I see, increasing EDC to 200 makes a noticeable difference for most 5950x models. Focus on the PerCore negative curve as recommended. You’re probably limited by your fastest cores, which usually run at a lower voltage out of the box. Keep them at -20 and raise the others higher—maybe around -30. Ryzen Master can highlight which two cores per CCD are fastest. Aim for the highest possible negative curve, then add MHz if needed. Once you identify your peak curve, you should be able to lower PPT slightly without affecting frequency, which will help reduce temperatures.
I adjusted the 5900 to 200/130/130 -30 and noticed it doesn’t affect the outcome. It seems the settings I choose don’t change the result, particularly with edc.
Hi, thanks for the update. My current results are around 11000 on multicore R20 and about 630 on single core R20. PBO is configured at 210/190/200, LLC in mode 8 (maximum VDroop), with the best performance on the top 2 cores at -20°C, then improving to -25 and -30 with the next 4 cores. I’m hoping for better single-core performance, but it seems unlikely with the BIOS settings on my MSI X570 Tomahawk gaming Wi-Fi. Raising the PPT to ~250 might help, but it would cause the CPU to overheat quickly—around 90°C—which is problematic. I’d need better cooling for that. Right now I’m using a Be Quiet Pure Loop 280mm, but eventually I plan to customize it when I get a more powerful GPU (like my 3060 Ti). Anyone have any tips to boost single-core scores?
